Update on Summit FC Programming

1 Jun 2020 by Travis Hayden

Dear Summit Families & Players,

We hope this email finds you safe and well during this unprecedented time in our lives. It has been a challenge but, we will come out on the other side all the better especially in terms of recognizing those things in life that are so important like health, family and friends.

As you have seen in earlier emails from Summit FC, we’ve been patiently waiting for guidance from the CDC, state and the Vermont Soccer Association concerning of a return to play. Like most things during the pandemic, it’s ever evolving with much uncertainty about when and if team training can resume and the likelihood of games, leagues and or tournaments occurring. Recently the Nordic Cup postponed their event until July 25-26 while Memorial Day and other tournaments like the Green Mountain Challenge and Mad Dog Mania, both set for June 20-21, cancelled. The Vermont Soccer League is in limbo with a proposed shortened season going from the end of June until the end of July but there are no assurances it will get off the ground.

Taking into account all the information we’ve collected to date and after much discussion at recent weekly Zoom board meetings, we have unfortunately come to the conclusion that we need to cancel the remainder of the 2019-2020 Summit FC season.

This has been a very difficult decision for us all but the SFC board unanimously believes it’s the best decision for our players, coaches and families. There will a partial refund of club fees paid but at this point we cannot say the exact amount. We are in the process of recovering funds we anticipate being returned from cancelled tournament entrees as well as fees paid to the VSA for registration and league play. Although these are not guaranteed we are hoping that they will come sooner than later. We must also take into account costs the club has already or will incur over the summer months like the lease, maintenance and insurance of the Polo Fields.

As we move through this process, it’s important for everyone to understand that as a non-profit with a near zero balance budget, we need to leave the club in as sound a fiscal standing as possible to ensure its’ existence going forward. The pandemic has not only hit our teams, players and families hard but also the club in terms of revenue from the winter and spring Saturday morning programs as well as sponsorship and expenses we’re responsible for as a part of operating the club.

We would appreciate your continued patience and ask that you do not contact your coaches and or board members inquiring about further information. Once we finalize the refund amount we will let you know via email and will expedite the process as quickly as possible.

Finally, we have also been talking about the possibility of providing some technical training for small groups of players that would stay within the guidelines for health, safety and social distancing put out recently by the VSA. We will keep you posted on what those plans will look like as soon as they are finalized.

We wish you all the best in the coming months and look forward to seeing you all soon,

Be safe. Stay Healthy,

SFC Board
